Visitors Preview Discovery Park of America in Obion County

UNION CITY, Tenn – The countdown to November 1 is underway as local leaders anticipate the grand opening of Discovery Park of America in Obion County. Tuesday, dozens of local and state officials, along with hundreds of special invited guests, experienced the 100,000 square foot education park that will soon be open to public. “This place is really a masterpiece,” Robbery E. Kirkland, whose foundation funded Discovery Park of America, said. The park will feature 60,000 square feet dedicated to exhibits, various gardens, simulators, and theaters. Through tourism, it is also expected to bring in millions of dollars annually to Obion County and surrounding areas. “This is just an amazing opportunity for West Tennessee,” Susan Whitaker, Tennessee’s Commissioner of Tourism, said. During Tuesday’s ceremony Kirkland and his wife were honored with special monuments for their contributions. Kirkland said he believes the park will pave the way for more to come in Obion County and West Tennessee. Once Discovery Park of America is opened, the state will donate 3 million dollars each year to support it’s growth.
