MILAN, Tenn. – Guns were taken from Milan Pawn Shop in back-to-back burglaries. Police said in the first burglary, an AK47 assault rifle and two .45 caliber pistols were stolen. The next night, the thieves took four shotguns. “People who are not really trained in the use of those firearms and often times are reckless in their use, that’s where the problem lies,” Milan Police Chief Tim Wright said. Police said to prevent such thefts at your home or workplace, the best thing to do is lock guns up at the end of the night. But in cases like the pawn shop where so many firearms are on display, that is not an option. The store owners said in the 29 years they have owned Milan Pawn Shop they have had no incidents until these break-ins. Now, they have been forced to take new safety precautions, like putting bars over the windows and shatterproof glass on the doors. “The bars on the windows are visible and sometimes might send the wrong impression to potential customers, but unfortunately that has to be done to protect your merchandise,” Chief Wright said. Police said the same thieves targeted a pawn shop in Humboldt, but were unable to get in. Later, what officers believe to be the getaway vehicle was recovered in Jackson. “They did it twice here, so three is’ no reason to believe they wouldn’t try to do it again,” Chief Wright said. When caught, the suspects face charges of felony theft, burglary, and vandalism. If you have any information in this case, call the Milan Police Department.
