Woolfork Hearing to Get New Judge

DOWNTOWN JACKSON — WBBJ has more developments in the sheriff scandal, including another change on the bench for next Wednesday’s protection order hearing. WBBJ has learned Crockett County general sessions judge Paul Conley will not preside over next Wednesday’s hearing. Conley told WBBJ that his proximity to Jackson was a factor in the decision. Madison County general sessions judge Hugh Harvey, who’s recused himself, petitioned the State Supreme Court to assign a new judge. Shelby County Judge Phyllis Gardner’s office tells us she has been assigned to the hearing. However, the office for the Supreme Court says an official assignment won’t be made until at least Monday. The deputy, Sharon Sanger has also been granted leave under the “Family Medical Leave Act”, according to The Madison County Human Resources Department. Sangster has not returned to work since the October 10 domestic incident with the sheriff at her West Jackson home. According to the county, this leave is unpaid.
