Woolfork Protection Order Hearing

DOWNTOWN JACKSON — Sheriff David Woolfork is facing a judge today regarding the order of protection placed against him. Ten witnesses, including the deputy Sharon Sangster, are testifying in the protection order hearing Wednesday. The hearing, which started at 2 p.m., is still in progress right now. Sangster was the first to take the stand around 2, and was finished being questioned around 4:25 p.m. Sangster’s attorneys told the judge they were still asking for an order of protection, and claimed that Sangster was in great fear for her life and still is. While under oath, Sangster told the judge that Sheriff woolfork had been physically violent with her in the past. She said on one occasion in March he was “hitting her like a man”. Letters between Sangster and the sheriff were admitted into evidence. In one read aloud by Sangster, Woolfork allegedly wrote to her after the March incident: “Sorry for my weak moment last night.” The photos of alleged bruises from the October 10 incident were taken into evidence. During cross examination, Sheriff Woolfork’s attorney questioned Sangster about her relationship with constable Frankie Lax, who Sangster called for help during the incident. Sangster also told the judge she had been taking steps to protect herself, and hired her attorneys a month before this incident. WBBJ will have more information for you as soon as the hearing ends.
