JACKSON Tenn. — Just minutes after an order of protection was granted against Madison County Sheriff David Woolfork, his attorney said there is a good chance they will file an appeal. Deputy Sharon Sangster was granted a year-long order of protection against the sheriff, Wednesday night. Sheriff Woolfork did not answer any questions after the hearing, and directed all comments to come from his attorney. “The statute provided we can file an appeal with the Circuit Court or the Chancery Court,” Woolfork’s attorney, Mark Donahoe said. “That appeal is a De Novo appeal which means that it’s as if this hearing was never held.” Under the order of protection, Sheriff Woolfork has to surrender his firearms, but Donahoe told WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News he will still be able perform his duties as sheriff. “All he has to do is give them to his children or one of his friends something like that,” Donahoe said. Woolfork’s attorney’s said there is a good chance they will file the appeal. “If that appeal is filed tomorrow, we’ll be scheduled for a new hearing in Circuit or Chancery Court, and the case will begin again as new,” Donahoe said. WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News did contact the P.O.S.T. Commission, who trains and certifies law enforcement with firearms, Wednesday. They could not say if they would review his certification if the order of protection was granted.
