Sheriff Deputy Receives Paid Administrative Leave

DOWNTOWN JACKSON — Madison County Attorney Steve Maroney confirms he recommended Deputy Sharon Sangster be put on paid administrative leave. She was put back on the payroll for the Madison County Sheriff’s Department, Friday. Maroney said this is a standard recommendation when an employee makes a sexual harassment claim and alleges he/she is unable to continue working. Assistant Chief Deputy Dan Paar said Sangster’s attorney, Deborah Godwin, made a similar reinstatement request. According to Paar, her payroll reinstatement is not retroactive. Sangster has not returned to the MCSD since an incident at her home involving Woolfork, Oct. 10. The criminal investigation into that domestic incident continues. No charges have been filed. Sangster has filed a sexual harassment claim with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. She alleges she suffered harassment at the hands of Sheriff David Woolfork since she was hired on March 16, 2011. According to the Madison County Finance Office, Sangster currently earns $34,632 a year. When she was hired in 2011, she was paid $27,756 a year. Sangster will remain on paid administrative leave until the investigations conclude.
