Wine Shortage Not Seen in West Tennessee

MADISON COUNTY, Tenn. – A recent report put out by Morgan Stanley says the global wine supply would not keep up with the demand for the years ahead. These reports of a grape shortage is causing quite a buzz for wine lovers in the area. “Actually I was a little surprised but in our part of the country it doesn’t seem to be a shortage of grapes or of wine,” said Century Farms Owner, Carl O’Cain. The findings are surprising to those in the wine industry. O’Cain said he keeps up with other wine makers and they too have had a great year. “I spoke to a friend who said they harvested and purchased from other vineyards. 40 percent more grapes than they have ever in the past which was 1.3 million pounds.” After sharing success stories with other wine makers makes O’Cain feel there will be an abundance of wine. “We harvested a bounty crop this year ourselves of very good quality of grapes and I feel no pressure be shortage of grapes,” said O’Cain. O’Cain added the report was correct in that the demand of wine is on the rise. “I don’t think it’s an intentional maneuver just to jack the price of wine, it could be. I have a local winery and we try to supply to the local market and we’re doing very well.”
