Additional Arrests Made in 2012 Fatal Shooting

DOWNTOWN JACKSON, Tenn. — Two more people have been indicted in a 2012 shooting death that left a Jackson man dead. Tashonda Davis, 22, and Roderick Gladney, 27, both of Jackson, were indicted Monday by the Madison County grand jury for their involvement in the 2012 shooting death of Jarvis Vinson, 23, of Jackson. The grand jury returned indictments charging Davis and Gladney both with first-degree murder of Jarvis Vinson, and attempted first-degree murder and aggravated assault of Dennis Coman. Davis was arrested in Jackson around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday by the U.S. Marshals Task Force, which is comprised of investigators with the Jackson Police Department’s Gang Unit. She remains in custody at the Madison County Jail. Gladney is currently in the Tennessee Department of Corrections on a parole violation. Gladney has been in custody since his Aug. 17 arrest during Operation Checkmate 1, when he was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to resale. This arrest violated Gladney’s parole and sent him back to prison. The ongoing investigation into Vinson’s homicide has determined that Gladney was driving a car and Davis fired shots toward Vinson and Coman. Davis and Gladney will be arraigned in Madison County Circuit Court, Division III, on a date to be determined. Three other Jackson men, Emanuel Beard, 18, Jateryance Smith, 18, and Kentavious Crisp, 23, are also charged with first-degree murder of Vinson, and attempted first degree murder and aggravated assault of Coman in connection with this case. Around 3:30 a.m. Aug. 11, 2012, Vinson was brought by private vehicle to Jackson-Madison County General Hospital with a gunshot wound. He died at 5:25 a.m. The investigation determined that there was a fight between Tashonda Davis and another man earlier in the night at a nightclub. Emanuel Beard and Jateryance Smith were not involved in the fight but received a phone call about it shortly afterward. Smith and Beard then drove to the area of Brianfield Drive and picked up Kentavious Crisp. The man who Davis had fought with at the nightclub was dropping off Vinson and Dennis Coman. Vinson and Coman got out his SUV and were walking toward an apartment building at 25 Brianfield Drive. Two cars then drove past Vinson and Coman. Crisp, Smith and Beard were in one car, and Gladney and Davis were in the second car. Shots were fired from both cars and Vinson was struck. Beard and Smith, who were both 17 at the time, were arrested in Jackson on Aug. 20, 2012. Following a Sept. 19 transfer hearing in Madison County Juvenile Court, Judge Christy Little ordered that they could be tried as adults. On Jan. 28, 2013, Beard, Smith and Crisp, were all indicted by the grand jury. Crisp, who had not previously been arrested, was taken into custody Jan. 29 by the U.S. Marshals Task Force. Crisp was released from the Madison County Jail on Feb. 28 after posting a $250,000 bond. Beard and Smith both remain in custody at the Madison County Jail on $250,000.
