6th Grader Donates Money to Charity

JACKSON, Tenn. – All Raven Meadows wanted was a new laptop. When she approached her parents about getting a computer they told her they would not buy one for her. So she came up with her own idea. Raven would make and sell pony tail holders as a way to raise money for the new laptop. After months of raising money she was able to buy the laptop. At the start of the new school year she was feeling accomplished with her new gear. Raven explained that after she bought the laptop, she saw a video at school that made her realize some things are more important than an electronic. “People are poor out there and that makes me really sad because they can’t afford things,” Meadows said. “That makes me really sad there are people who can’t eat…they need food to live.” The 6th grader looked at her summer project and realized the leftover cash from the pony tail holders could make a difference in another person’s life. “I really couldn’t think of anything else that I wanted.” So Raven talked to her family about her concern and how she wanted to do something for the hungry. They decided that donating the money to RIFA would be a great way to help. “I felt very proud of myself and I knew my parents were proud too and it was just overall a lot of fun and nice to do,” Meadows said. This 6th grader hopes this act of kindness is only the beginning. “I feel like I could inspire other people to do that to help them even more which I think would be really, really, cool,” Meadows said. With the leftover cash and some of her allowance, it was $70 that would be donated to the charity.
