Corey Gray Arrested for Saturday Shooting at Sheriff’s Department

JACKSON, Tenn. – The man wanted since Saturday’s shooting in the parking lot of the Madison County Sheriff’s Department is behind bars. Corey Gray turned himself in around noon, Tuesday, three days after what some are calling one of the boldest shootings Jackson has seen. A 24-year-old man and a five-year-old girl were injured by the gunfire. “I feel like all the pressure from the police is what made him turn himself in because we weren’t going to stop until he was caught,” Jackson Police Department Captain Tyreece Miller said. Gray faces charges of second degree murder and four counts of aggravated assault. This is not the 27-year-old’s first run-in with law enforcement. Gray was linked to the mass shooting inside Club Karma last year, where he was charged with tampering with evidence. “He’s a person who has known gang associations, and we consider him to be a dangerous individual and we think he demonstrated that Saturday,” Captain Miller said. Officers are now trying to determine if Gray has had a hand in any of the other gun violence over the last week. “Corey Gray is just one pawn in the game,” Captain Miller said. “We’re still trying to peck away at it and get others off the streets.” Miller said like in most cases involving a shooting, Gray knew who he was aiming for when he pulled the trigger. “What we found is that people aren’t settling disputes with fists any more,” Captain Miller said. “They’re pulling guns. And so when there’s a shooting, there’s always a reason behind it.” Gray will be officially charged Wednesday morning in Jackson City Court.
