JACKSON — Investigators from the Jackson-Madison County Metro Narcotics Unit were notified by a local pharmacy that John Hatley used a forged prescription to illegally obtain Tussionex from their pharmacy. Tussionex contains Hydrocodone which is a Schedule III Controlled Substance and one of the most abused prescription drugs in the State of Tennessee. The Metro Narcotics Prescription Drug Diversion Investigators conducted an investigation on Mr. Hatley‘s activities and discovered that he had stolen several prescription pads while working as a Registered Nurse at a local hospital. Hatley then began forging and illegally obtaining prescriptions using the names and DEA numbers of four doctors that had privileges at the hospital where he worked. The prescriptions were for controlled substances and the dates the drugs were obtained were from September 21, 2012 through March 27, 2013. Further investigation revealed that Hatley had committed these offenses on at least 35 separate occasions. The matter was presented to the Madison County Grand Jury on 11-04-13 and a true bill was returned on all counts. John Marcus Hatley, age 34, of 133 Cool Springs Trail in Medina was indicted on 35 counts of Obtaining a Controlled Substance by Fraud. He surrendered himself at the Madison County Criminal Justice Complex and has been released after posting a $1,000 bond.
