JACKSON, Tenn. – Madison County Sheriff David Woolfork will not resign, according to his attorney Mark Donahoe. Monday, the County Commission gave Woolfork an ultimatum, resign in seven days or ouster proceedings will begin. “I can tell you right now, I don’t think the commission knows what they’re doing,” was Donahoe’s response. “I think they made a hasty decision.” He maintains there is no grounds for an ouster and argues Woolfork has done a good job as sheriff. According to Donahoe, the commission’s decisions were all politically motivated. “The County Commission created an office for people to report things that are going on in the sheriff’s department,” said Donahoe. “And who did they appoint? Frankie Lax’s mother-in-law.” Ann Harrell was the commissioner assigned to the position. Lax, an outspoken opponent of Woolfork’s said he is not part of a political conspiracy and had no knowledge of his mother-in-law’s appointment until after the fact.
