Man Pleads Guilty to Sex Crimes Involving a Minor

DOWNTOWN JACKSON — Dontavious Dodd, a former associate minister at a church, pleaded guilty earlier this week to sex crimes involving a minor. Dodd, who is free on $40,000 bond, will be sentenced at 8 a.m. Dec. 16 in Madison County Circuit Court, Division I. Dodd faces a sentencing range of three to six years for attempted solicitation of exploitation of a minor, three to six years for tampering with evidence and a maximum of 11 months and 29 days for solicitation of a minor. On August 5, the Jackson Police Department’s Special Investigations Bureau was notified about Dodd, 21, soliciting a 14-year-old girl for sex. Investigators learned that in July, Dodd solicited the girl for sex via the Internet and sent the girl a sexually explicit image via the Internet. When Dodd learned about an impending investigation, he intentionally deleted some of the sexually explicit content that was stored on the girl’s social media account. Investigators presented the case to the Madison County grand jury on Sept. 3, and Dodd was indicted. Police arrested Dodd Sept. 5, and he was released on bond the same day.
