Southern Miss working to end losing streak

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) – The first year of Todd Monken’s tenure as Southern Mississippi’s head coach has been one to forget.

The Golden Eagles (0-10, 0-6 Conference USA) are stuck in a 22-game losing streak – by far the longest in the Football Bowl Subdivision – and haven’t come close to winning since a potential game-winning field goal was blocked in the final seconds of a 24-23 loss to Florida International on Oct. 5.

Now Southern Miss will host Middle Tennessee (6-4, 4-2) on Saturday for the final home game of the season.

Southern Miss athletic director Bill McGillis took to Twitter in support of Monken after last week’s lopsided loss to Florida Atlantic. Monken says he appreciates the kind words, but understands that the winning needs to happen soon.
