OBION CO. Tenn.- Kurt Sanders was just 5-years-old digging on his parents farm when he discovered what every kid dreams of, a buried treasure. At the time, the now 7-year-old said he wasn’t sure just what he uncovered after finding a few arrowheads with his mom. “After about the tenth time I heard her say ‘You found another one Kurt,’ I stopped what I was doing and stopped them, because I knew they found too many,” recalled Kurt’s dad, Kevin. Kurt’s dad called state archaeologist, Bill Lawrence who told the family their 5-year-old made a once in a lifetime historical find. Kurt had found 71 Native American turkey tail knives, and two jewels. Lawrence say the artifacts are nearly 3,000 years old. “I didn’t really have a reaction,” confesses Kurt. “My mom had a reaction, that’s who had a reaction!” Lawrence suggested the family place the “Cat Corner Cache” right down the road, in newly opened Discovery Park of America. “That’s the first place it needs to be,” said Kevin. “Since it was found in Obion County.” The family signed a two year lease with the museum for the artifacts to be displayed, right next to Kurt’s picture. Lawrence said he believes the artifacts were a sign of wealth among Native Americans, and were buried in a ritual. “I think there is more stuff up here,” said Kurt, who says he won’t stop looking for more buried treasure.
