UPDATE: Man Charged in Beating Death of Roommate

JACKSON Tenn.,- Jackson Police made an arrest in the Friday beating death of a man in East Jackson. Investigators charged Clarence Edward Johnson with first degree murder and tampering with evidence in the homicide of John Wesley Williams Sunday afternoon. According to police Johnson and Williams had been living inside of a vacant home on Second Street together. Officers say shortly after 7 on Friday, Johnson called police and reported that his roommate was dead. Investigators say they believe Johnson had struck Williams in the head multiple times with a crowbar and then disposed of the weapon. The crowbar was later found hidden in a yard on Middle Avenue. Johnson is currently in Madison County jail, and will have his first court appearance on Monday.
