MCNAIRY COUNTY, Tenn. — Adamsville head football coach Brandon Gray is gearing up for the semifinal matchup. “It’s like a whole new football season, and we’ve changed a lot,” Gray said. “We go back and watch the film and a lot of guys we had playing this are not playing now, and same for them.” TCA went into Adamsville and took down the Cards 28-21 in early September. Nearly 3 months later, the two teams meet again and are playing for a spot in the State Championship. “This is a game we wanted and sometimes you’ve got to be careful what you wish for,” Gray said. “But I think our kids are excited.” Cheering them all the way will be the fans who’ve decorated the town and say they have their team’s back no matter what. “You look up in the stands, and if you don’t know their name, you know their face,” Gray. “It’s just a small-knit community and everybody knows everybody, and it’s just a great feeling.” This game is also about redemption for last season, where Adamsville fell in the state championship. So against TCA, getting a win would put them back on that stage. “You’ve got two good teams,” Gray said. “You’ve got to go out and you’ve got to play and you’ve got to execute. We just told our kids you’ve got to sacrifice this week.” When the Cardinals take the field against TCA, they’ll fight for the chance to play for that championship title, which is something the school has never been able to bring home. The game kicks off at 7 p.m. in Adamsville.
