MILAN, Tenn.–Cyber Monday is one of the biggest shopping days of the year. Rather than deal with crowds in stores, customers take advantage of hot deals online. Leigh Nants employees packaged up online orders on Monday. The shop in Milan recently started selling clothes and accessories online. This is the store‘s first time participating in Cyber Monday. “Today we are doing 50 percent off everything online, including free shipping,” said Store Manager Karen Lawson. Lawson hopes Cyber Monday and online sales bring in new customers. “Really we went online to come out of just this region,” she said. “We’re very popular in Milan and the surrounding areas, but we want to be nationwide.” Other stores have the same idea. “We just started in July and our website has already taken off,” said Calista Joyce, owner of Beyond Vogue. “We’ve sent to New York, to Texas, so I’m excited about what I’m going to mail tomorrow.” Joyce recently opened her store in downtown Jackson. “Our goal is within six months at least 25 percent of our business is online and we’re on target with that,” she said. Shopping online allows customers to search multiple stores without leaving home. Lawson said it is convenient. “You can search several different shops, boutiques, retail, whatever, without having to leave the comfort of your home and you can compare prices without having to move,” she said. The National Retail Federation estimates a record high 141 million people shopped over the holiday weekend, but says total spending will be down nearly 3 percent from last year.
