BOLIVAR, Tenn.-A historical home in one West Tennessee town is now in ruins. Fire officials said this home on Jefferson Street in Bolivar caught fire last Wednesday. The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation, but officials believe it was sparked by an electrical issue. The Durrett home was built in 1826, and Ken Savage with the Association for the Preservation of Tennessee Antiques said with the home going up in flames, a piece of history is now gone forever. “Any time you lose a site, you lose the history. Because once people don’t see it and relate to it, those stories and everything get gone,” said Ken Savage with the Association for the Preservation of Tennessee Antiques. Officials said no one was in the building at the time of the fire. They said it was being used as an antique shop.
