Former JPD Chief Running for Sheriff

JACKSON, Tenn. – The day after Madison County Sheriff David Woolfork announced he will not seek a sixth term, the race for his job heats up. Former Jackson Police Chief Rick Staples told WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News he picked up a petition to run for sheriff, Wednesday afternoon. Staples served on the Jackson police force for more than three decades. He retired as chief in 2009. Staples joins former Tennessee Bureau of Investigations Special-Agent-In-Charge, John Mehr, in the race. So far they are the only two candidates to formally announced their intentions.
