Union City Defeats S. Pittsburg, Wins Class 1A Championship
COOKEVILLE, Tenn.- In 2009, Union City defeated South Pittsburg to win their first state championship. The two met again in Cookeville, Friday in the Blue Cross Bowl. In a 23-14 finish, the Golden Tornadoes claimed the gold ball again over the Pirates. After trailing 7-0, Union City scored 20 unanswered points. Leading the Golden Tornadoes to a Class 1A State Championship was offensive MVP Ricky Henry. Henry finished with over a 100 rushing yards and 2 TDs.
