Mobile Home Destroyed in Fire, Two Bodies Found

BIG SANDY, Tenn. — Benton County officials say the charred remains of two bodies were found inside of a burned mobile home Saturday morning. Now a family is short two of its members, just a few weeks away from Christmas. “There was some sign of a wood heater and it was a single wide trailer,” Sheriff Tony King said. “We just ask people to be a bit more careful and vigilant about how they use those types of heat,” The home on Brodie Rd. was a total loss. King says a neighbor, who was also the landlord, called deputies around 7:00 A.M. Saturday to report the fire. Members in the community say they are stunned something like this happened. “For this time of year the holidays and all, I just hope they find out for sure who they are,” Sherri Fording said, owner of Kriket’s Tavern. For now Fording says this tight knit community will have to come together in the family’s time of need. “It doesn’t matter if we knew them or not, we try to help everybody in anyway we possibly can,” Fording said. “We’re just a small little business but we do what we can.” Tennessee state arson officials are also helping with the investigation. The remains will be sent to the Tennessee medical examiner in Nashville for positive identification.
