JACKSON, Tenn.- Police are investigating after one 20-year-old man was found with at least three gunshot wounds to his chest and abdomen in the parking lot of a barber shot on Lane Avenue, Tuesday. Officers responded to a shots fired call around 3:15 p.m. Tuesday. Police said they found the victim shot multiple times lying on the ground of the business which sits just yards away form Lane College and Jackson Central-Merry High School. The victim was taken by ambulance to the Jackson-Madison County General Hospital where he was in critical condition. “We are all brothers and sisters out here and we are supposed to love one another, we are not supposed to be hurting one another,” said resident Lizzie Robinson. “They just need to stop because it don’t make sense.” Investigators told WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News they found at least five to six shell casings along with several other pieces of evidence on the scene. Jackson Council member Johnny Dodd was among witnesses, some who told police a white car was seen driving away from the scene right after the shooting. At this time, officers have not released any suspect descriptions. “A lot of people don’t want to talk, but we are going to have to realize that we are losing our community. I just wish our community could come together and stop the killing,” said Councilman Johnny Dodd. “I mean like I said, our community is losing as a whole. We want better jobs, we want other businesses to come in, we want better schools and with the way the killing is going and the way our crime problem is going…it’s not helping at all.” The shooting happened about an hour after school was let out at JCM. District leaders told WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News that the school’s programs were not disrupted. They said that the campus was not put on lockdown because they considered the shooting to be a neighborhood incident. Residents living and working in the area said the gun violence in broad daylight, near two east Jackson schools is unnerving. “You don’t ever know what will happen, there are so many shootings, so much violence you never know what’s going on so yes you should be a little uneasy,” said Robinson. Police said they are not sure which direction the white car fled from the scene but several people were seen inside of it.
