WASHINGTON DC. — Senator Lamar Alexander announced a new chief of staff, Wednesday afternoon. “I have named David Cleary as my chief of staff. David has worked with me for eight years and fortunately is well-prepared to step into this position,” Sen. Alexander said in a release. This change in staff comes after the arrest of former chief of staff Ryan Loskarn. Loscarn was arrested after an investigation involving a child pornography. Loskarn is the chief of staff in Alexander’s Washington, D.C., office.

Alexander says he was “stunned, surprised and disappointed” by the news. Alexander is a former Tennessee governor and has also served as the U.S. Secretary of Education. He was first elected to the Senate in 2002. David Cleary has served as Alexander‘s legislative director since 2011 and as Republican staff director for the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee since 2012. He has been working with Alexander since 2006.
