Homeowner Catches, Hogties Wanted Henry Co. Man

HENRY CO. Tenn.- The Henry County Sheriff’s Department said a wanted man picked the wrong house to hid in while being chased by deputies. Investigators tell WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News Joseph Coleman’s car had broken down on the side of Highway 54 near Paris, when a deputy stopped to help. The deputy quickly realized he was wanted for violation of parole, and tried to arrest him. Deputies say Coleman speed off to get away. “We went about 2 miles on 54 west,” said Sgt. Ricky Wade. “He turned into a driveway into a residence.” Coleman’s car broke down again with several deputies now chasing him. Investigators said he got out of his car and ran on foot to a home, and hid in a car. Deputies could not locate him, and said he would have got away if the homeowners had not tried to leave shortly after. “About 10 minutes later we got a 911 call saying they had the suspect in custody or ‘hogtied’ is what they stated,” said Wade. According to the sheriff’s department, Coleman jumped out of the trunk, grabbed a shovel, and tried to attack the homeowner. “He hit the owner with a shovel one time. The homeowner and his son jumped on him and took the shovel from him,” said Wade. Deputies said the pair hit him with the shovel, and hogtied him with rope. When law enforcement arrived Coleman had to be taken to the E.R. to get stitches. Coleman’s passenger, Sabrina Adams, was also arrested. Coleman faces charges of evading arrest, burglary, and violation of probation. Henry County Sheriff’s Department said they do not encourage anyone to confront suspects on their own. Investigators said while they are happy Coleman was caught, they are glad the homeowner and his son were not hurt.
