Man Arrested in West Jackson Throat Cutting

DOWNTOWN JACKSON — Jackson police have arrested Stacey Mittlestat, 41, for cutting another man’s throat during a fight. Around 7:35 p.m. Sunday, police were called about a stabbing at Jackson Mobile Village, 2223 Hollywood Drive. Jason Whetstine, 37, of Beech Bluff, and Mittlestat got into an argument inside Mittlestat’s trailer. The two men then became involved in a fist fight. During the fight, Mittlestat cut Whetstine across the throat with a knife causing a severe laceration. Mittlestat left the scene in his SUV. A description of the vehicle was put out on the police radio. Shortly afterward, police stopped Mittlestat’s SUV on Hollywood Drive at Carolane Drive. Officers took Mittlestat into custody and found the knife used in the attack. Whetstine was transported by ambulance to Jackson- Madison County General Hospital in serious condition. Whetstine is recovering today and remains in the hospital in stable condition. Investigators learned that Whetstine’s wife had just ended a relationship with Mittlestat. Mittlestat is scheduled to be arraigned via video link at 8 a.m. Tuesday in Jackson City Court on a charge of attempted second-degree murder.
