One Less Week of Holiday Shopping Due to Late Thanksgiving

JACKSON, Tenn. — With just ten days left to shop people flocked to Vann drive Sunday afternoon looking for deals. But the Shirleys, who’ve spent nearly $800 Christmas shopping, lost a weeks worth of gift hunting, because of the late Thanksgiving this year. “We do feel rushed after moving here and getting set up in our home and stuff and trying to do Thanksgiving and Christmas together,” Jackie Shirley said. Jackie and her husband Hoke Shirley just moved to West Tennessee from Georgia. The Shirleys say they resorted to gift cards this year because on top of moving expenses, shopping for their nine grandchildren has been stressful. “We came here hoping to find something, we didn’t find something, so we’re gonna go probably over to the mall and few other places and look around and just keep on shopping,” Hoke Shirley said. If you’re a last minute shopper askmen.com suggests shopping at the mall, chain stores, drugstores and online. Shoppers like Chelsea Matamoros say they’re searching for bargains ahead of time to avoid the crowd. “Thanksgiving was so late this year so we have had to kind of hustle and bustle, we were out here yesterday and today,” Matamoros said. If you haven’t started shopping yet don’t worry, askmen.com says to make sure you have more than one gift idea for each person you’re shopping for. That way, you’ll have backup plan in case you don’t find your first choice.
