GE Announces Production of New Product in Selmer

SELMER, Tenn. — GE announced that it is celebrating the start of production of the first new GE Monogram brand refrigerator product platform since 2001, Tuesday. “They’re investing money into the company and giving us the peace of mind that we’re gonna be around for a while so we’re really excited about that,” employee Eric Hurst said. The new product is part of a $20 million investment in the Selmer Monogram Refrigeration production facility. GE also announced the expansion of its warehousing operations to provide capacity for future growth. “It’s a good shot in the arm for progress in McNairy county because monogram has been here over 20 years,” Ronnie Brooks said, McNairy County Mayor. The new French door built-in refrigerator, part of the fastest-growing refrigeration configuration and, is an addition to the other models made at the plant and is the first offering of its kind within the GE Monogram lineup. “What we’re celebrating here is a lot bigger than the announcement of these two new product lines for GE, it’s a celebration of a resurgence in our competitiveness as a state,” Bill Hagerty said, Tennessee Economic Development Commissioner. Executives say the new building is scheduled to open in the last week of January 2014. The new refrigerator will be available to select retailers in the same month, but will be sold at stores in September.
