Man Charged For Stealing Wallet From Sick Man at Food Giant

DOWNTOWN JACKSON — Jackson police have charged a man with felony theft for stealing a customer’s wallet that was accidentally dropped in a grocery store. Ederick Woods, 42, of Bolivar, is charged with theft of property over $1,000 and is in custody at the Madison County Jail. He is scheduled to be arraigned via video link at 8 a.m. Friday in Jackson City Court. Around 11:45 a.m. Nov. 8, James Stewart, of Pinson, accidentally dropped his wallet on the floor inside Food Giant, located at 1727 S. Highland Ave. An unidentified man walked up behind Stewart, kicked the wallet behind the counter and picked it up. The unidentified man kept the wallet, which contained over $1,000 cash. Investigators obtained video surveillance of this incident and asked local media to air the footage in an attempt to identify the thief. A WBBJ viewer called in an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers, which gave investigators a lead. Further investigation determined that Woods was the person responsible for stealing the wallet. Investigators issued a warrant for Woods today and Madison County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested him around 1 p.m. in Medon.
