Doctors Say More Locals Are Getting Flu Shots This Holiday Season

JACKSON, Tenn- With Christmas less than a week away, doctors say many West Tennesseans are hoping for a holiday free of the flu. Doctor Jason Myatt of the Jackson Clinic, said the flu season started early this year and more people are getting flu shots as a precaution. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 40 percent of Americans have already gotten the flu shot this season, up three percent from this time last year. “If you are a parent with small children you still want to talk to the doctor about getting them a shot,” Dr. Myatt said. Justin Avant agreed. He and his wife decided to get their 1-year old son, vaccinated this year. “I don’t want him getting sick or anyone getting sick so we decided to take precautions,” Avant said. Local health officials couldn’t give the exact number of people infected with the flu so far this year, but they did say they’ve seen a spike in cases over the last three weeks.
