WEAKLEY CO., Tenn. — A man was taken to a Memphis hospital after a car chase ended in a crash and deputy involved shooting, Wednesday morning. At around 6:30 a.m., Weakley County deputies responded to a call from a clerk of a convenience store in Palmersville regarding a male who threatened to kill him. This call led to a car chase with the suspect, identified as Shane Michel Burnside, 30, of Thibodaux, Louisiana. Burnside reportedly drove through roadblocks and into oncoming traffic. During this time, the car reportedly passed several loaded school buses and ran multiple red lights and 4-way stop signs. Burnside then drove onto railroad tracks and approached a deputy that was blocking the next railroad crossing on East Peach Street. Burnside did not stop and the deputy was compelled to open fire on the suspect. Burnside then stopped his vehicle and was taken into custody. He did sustain injuries and was airlifted to Regional Medical Center in Memphis. Burnside has been released from the hospital and is being detained by Shelby County officers until Weakley County deputies could pick him up on charges of assault, several counts reckless endangerment and reckless driving. The case is being investigated by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
