DOWNTOWN JACKSON — More than 100 government and community members gathered at the Southwest Tennessee Development District office Wednesday to present the Regional Economic Development Initiative legislative agenda to state legislators. One of the goals is to gain more support for the governor’s “Drive to 55” program which is a plan to increase the amount of Tennesseans with college degrees. The director of the program says education is key to a better workforce. “Education is the key to success in everything; it’s the key to success in economic development in everything we do,” Lisa Hankins, REDI Director said. “Your community will not be successful if you don’t have an educated work force.” This is the fourth consecutive year that the REDI program’s leaders have presented its “legislative wish list” to elected officials at a luncheon.
