Woman Accused of Assaulting a Mother and Baby Appears in Court

DOWNTOWN JACKSON — A mother who fought with another mother who was holding a baby turned herself in to police and appeared in court, Wednesday morning. Jocilyn Taylor, 22, appeared in city court on charges of simple assault of the mother and reckless aggravated assault on the baby. She surrendered to police around 3:30 Wednesday morning. Police say Taylor fought with Sherita Phelps at Royal Arms Apartments in mid-December. During the attack, a 4-month-old baby fell from Sherita Phelps’ arms and hit the floor, fracturing the infant’s skull. The child had to be treated at a Memphis hospital. Taylor is being held on a $7,500 bond and will return to court on Feb. 3.
