Bursting Pipes Cause Water Damage For Local Residents

JACKSON, Tenn. — The warming temperatures are proving costly for home and business owners around West Tennessee as pipes begin to thaw and send rushing water everywhere. Pipes frozen by the cold weather are now thawing all over the area, and that’s keeping plumbers busy. “This is probably the busiest we have been in about 10 years,” Mike Johnson, of Garrett Plumbing and Heating Co., said. Pipes burst in one North Jackson dentist office and could result in thousands of dollars in damage, and this business isn’t alone. “It’s like this all over town,” Johnson said. Plumbers say many of the calls they’ve received could have been prevented if customers would have left water dripping at night to prevent frozen pipes. “About half of the people in Jackson need a plumber right now,” Patrick Houge, a local plumber said. To prevent flooding from burst pipes, plumbers recommend if you leave your home or business, turn meters or valves off. This is just in case pipes burst while you’re away.
