JACKSON, Tenn.- Jackson police are searching for two gunmen in connection to the shooting and home invasion in north Jackson that left one man seriously injured. “It really is too close to home,” neighbor Crystal Snider said. “It seems like everything is just spraying throughout Jackson now and there really isn’t anywhere safe.” Officers responded to the home along Brooksie Drive around 10 p.m., Tuesday. Investigators said the 23-year- old victim was taken to the hospital by a private vehicle with a serious gunshot wound to his leg. Police said the the gunmen kicked in the front door of the home, barged in and demanded cash from the family inside. During the confrontation, officers said the victim was robbed of marijuana and then shot in the leg. The victim’s girlfriend told WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News the 23-year-old was there visiting with their 2-year-old daughter who witnessed the shooting. “She was standing at the end of the driveway with the baby I told her to give me the baby. Next thing we know when we looked up, she was pulling him outside to the car and blood was everywhere, it was just traumatizing,” said one neighbor who didn’t want to be identified. The victim’s girlfriend told WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News that both gunmen were wearing masks. Investigators said they believe the shooting was not a random act. “While processing the crime scene, we found amounts of marijuana as well as marijuana in the victim’s pocket and a large amount of cash,” said Capt. Tyreece Miller, Jackson Police Dept. “Usually in home invasions people that do these types of crimes they know what they are going to find inside they know what they are looking for.” Residents said the violence on Brooksie Drive has served as a wake-up call to be more aware of what is going on around them. “Yes, it really has shaken up the neighborhood you know, there is a lot of small children that live in the neighborhood,” said Snider. “I’m definitely worried I’m going to be working on upping security on our own home and being more vigilant.” The victim’s girlfriend moved out of the home Wednesday afternoon; she said she cannot imagine why anyone would do this to her family. Police said at this time their description of the two gunmen is vague. Both men were described as black men wearing dark clothing.
