HARDIN COUNTY, Tenn.– For nearly 24 hours, Hardin County residents went without showers, flushable toilets, or any running water. “When the cold weather hit us, we couldn’t catch up,” Larry Vandiver said, First Utility District General Manager. Officials said a leak in the main water line caused water outages for more than 700 residents on Wednesday “[We are] working on it day and night trying to get it back on and now we’re on our way back up,” Vandiver said. To help their customers through, Vandiver said the company used the Pickwick Lake and a nearby water treatment facility to provide water. Utility workers said most of the customers without water lived on the south side of Hardin county on Damon and Leath Rd. “It started going down real low yesterday afternoon and we ran up some extra water to wash dishes and something to eat,” resident Sadie Miller said. Miller said thankfully the family prepared by storing as much water as they could. “Whatever we could put it in, dish pans and in some five gallon buckets that we had to flush the toilets and stuff,” Miller said. Vandiver said his workers collaborated with the Hardin County Fire Department District 3, working overtime to restore the system. He said everyone should have running water late Friday night.
