6-Year-Old Boy Saves Grandfather from House Fire

WHITEVILLE, Tenn. — Most call him JJ but now 6 year old James Kelly is known as a hero after being quick on his feet in the face of death. The brave six year old saved his grandfather after their mobile home burst into flames. Best friend of the victim, Timmy Worles said, “He was not coming out that house without his grandfather.” “When they got back, he had pulled him to the door and so when they got the door open he was laying there and JJ was still tugging and pulling telling him Pa Pa get up,” Worles added. The flames destroyed the mobile home on Martin Luther King Dr. Firefighters got the call around 9:30 Saturday morning. 57-year-old John Hutchinson was asleep when it happened. He escaped with the help of JJ but not before getting second degree burns to his face and shoulder. “And like everybody say, the Lord works in mysterious ways because a 6-year-old child could not pull a 250 pound man,” Worles said. Now Rosie Robinson says her niece and Johns wife, Easter Hutchinson, have to start over. Robinson says the fire may have destroyed the home but it brought the family closer together. “Seven years ago the same thing happened to me. It’s horrifying to know and to feel,” Robinson said. The victim was taken by ambulance to a Memphis hospital. He is listed in stable condition.
