BOLIVAR, Tenn. — Tennessee legislators will be back in session in Nashville on Tuesday. Democratic State Representative Johnny Shaw says issues like leaving a gun in your vehicle in public parking lots, is one of many controversial topics on the agenda. While some Tennesseans feel they should be able to keep guns where they want, Shaw says some regulation is necessary. “I’m not against guns I just think that’ll be some control,” Shaw said. “It’s very possible that vote may come about again that we can actually leave our guns in the car while we go to work.” Another heated topic, wine sales in grocery stores to make shopping more convenient. Shaw says issues like this could turn the session into an all out debate. “How do you affect that small business person who runs the liquor store on the corner, that’s the only business they’ve got that’s their living,” Shaw said. Other issues include the state’s shrinking budget, expanding Medicare, workers compensation and pay raises for teachers. “We have turned down already 1.4 billion (with a B) dollars in Tennessee that we could be using to cover about 330,000 Tennesseans,” Shaw said. The lawmakers won’t make a vote to pass any of the bills until February. A final decision on the votes will be made in April. We did reach out to Republican State Representative Jimmy Eldridge for his view of the upcoming session, but he was unable to go on camera Monday.
