NAACP Prepares for MLK Weekend with Events

JACKSON, Tenn. – The Jackson Madison County NAACP is preparing for Martin Luther King Jr. Day by hosting events throughout the weekend and holiday. Saturday, January 18th, they will be hosting a MLK “Community Issues” Forum where they will show a video by Michelle Alexander titled “The New Jim Crow.” The public is invited and refreshments will be offered at the JMC NAACP Branch Office in Jackson from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. Monday, the JCM NAACP Young council, Lane College Chapter NAACP, AKA Sorority and Lane College HBCU Wellness will celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day by a multitude of events. The first is a community breakfast at the T.R. White Sportsplex, which includes a college student panel discussion. It starts at 8:30 a.m. After that, the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church will begin the mass parade and march at 9:45 a.m. The last event is a day of service program at Mt.
