BROWNSVILLE, Tenn. –Two years and more than $150,000 later, construction began on the Flag Grove School where Tina Turner started her education. “It’s so much fun to actually see things happening,” Sonia-Outlaw Clark, Director of the West Tennessee Delta Heritage Center said. She remembered when the restoration was just a thought. Since then hundreds of citizens have donated and raised close to 200 thousand dollars. On Monday, construction workers begin fixing the outside of the school, originally built in the 1940’s. “It’s part of our heritage and part of our past,” Outlaw-Clark said. Construction for the outside could last up to six weeks, and after that, organizers said they will begin working on the inside. They say they hope to have everything completed by September.
