Thousands of Dollars in Duck Decoys Allegedly Stolen

CAMDEN, Tenn. — Officials say duck decoys in the Camden Bottoms in Benton County disappeared Wednesday. Steve Davis, one of the many victims of the alleged theft, says crimes like these are typical as hunting season comes to an end. “Well there’s about $1,200 worth of our stuff lost,” Davis said. “Another blind lost probably 500, another blind lost about six or seven hundred,” Davis said. According to Sheriff Tony King, the decoys were taken from three different blinds on the Tennessee River. So far officials say at least 50 of the decoys were taken from just one area alone, and there could be even more. “What can you do, I was trying to go duck hunting at 5:00 in the morning, 5:30, boat come up said we had been hit,” Davis said. Hunting is not only a favorite past time for local residents, King says it’s one of top money makers for Benton county. “Two things they’re either gonna use them or sell them that’s about it,” King said. “And it may be other hunters that don’t wish to purchase them, wish to steal them.” Sheriff King says some of the decoys had the owner’s names on them and hopefully that will lead them to the alleged culprit. “We have a vehicle description and some descriptions on some people that were seen in the area that afternoon late that we would like to talk to,” King said. Sheriff King says if the alleged thieves are caught they will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
