Feeling Lucky? The Powerball Has Climbed to $171 Million

NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Lottery’s weekend drawings created thousands of winning tickets and jackpots that continue to climb, including the Powerball grand prize, which has soared to $171 million for Wednesday. The Lottery will launch four new instant-ticket games this week, as well, giving players an even larger lineup of choices for fun and the chance to win prizes. The Tennessee Education Lottery Corporation operates entirely from the revenue it generates through the sale of its products. Net proceeds from sales of Lottery tickets, currently averaging over $6.3 million per week, fund specific education programs, including college scholarships and after-school programs. Since the Lottery began selling tickets on Jan. 20, 2004, it has raised more than $2.91 billion for these programs. In addition to the educational beneficiaries, players have won over $6.7 billion in prizes and Lottery retailer partners have earned over $729 million in retailer commissions.
