Group seeks to oust Chattanooga councilman

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) – The Chattanooga City Commission will consider a petition from a group that seeks to recall Councilman Chris Anderson.

The Chattanooga Times Free Press (http://bit.ly/1hIGJe9) reports the panel will discuss the matter next month after a group of citizens began a petition drive last week.

The residents say they want Anderson ousted in part because of his proposal to extend health benefits to domestic partners of city employees. Some also said he doesn’t represent the needs of the community.

Anderson, who is gay, said he isn’t surprised by the effort. He says his proposal gives “equal rights” to city workers.
