8 Children, Mother Believed to be Dead In Kentucky House Fire

GREENVILLE, KY.- A Father and Daughter are clinging to life after a devastating house fire claimed nine of their family member’s lives. Investigators said combustibles too close to an electric heater is most likely the cause. Harold McElvain who lives just across the way from the Watson family said the home that housed the family of 11 went up in flames around 2′ o clock in the morning, Thursday. “It’s a small community, small county and everybody kind of knows everybody to some extent,” said neighbor Harold McElvain. “We won’t ever forget this..this is one of the biggest tragedies we’ve had here, other than a mining disaster. I think this is probably the largest disaster we’ve ever had.” Officials said a couple of first responders who lived just down the street from the home, were able to make it onto the scene in a matter of minutes. Officials said the home was fully engulfed when they arrived. Officials on the scene said the white wood house collapsed with nine family members inside. Authorities believe eight children and their mother died in the flames. The father of the house, Chad Watson, 36 was able to make it outside with his 11-year-old daughter. Officials said they both suffered serious burn injuries At last report both Chad Watson and his daughter Kylie Watson were listed in critical but stable condition. Kentucky officials said autopsies to determine the victims’ exact causes of death began this afternoon.
