“Dead Man’s Curve” Speed Changes Approved in Weakley Co.

WEAKLEY CO. Tenn., — Weakley Co. Leaders approved new speed limit changes to a sharp stretch of roadway nicknamed “Dead Man’s Curve.” Residents who live near the area tell WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News they see multiple wrecks in front of their home. “In the last 3 months we’ve had three bad accidents,” worried Richard Lee, who brought the matter to the County Commission’s attention. “2 of them were upside down, while another took out a power pole.” County Commissioners approved to change the speed limit from 55 mph to 35. “It’s extremely dangerous. I have a 16-year-old and I’m afraid to let her pull out of her own driveway,” Jelena Mcain said, who has had cars run off the road and into her front yard. With the new change, residents hope drivers will slow down, and be more safe. “I’ve lived here for 13 years and I’ve made numerous calls, so I’m glad they are doing something besides just cleaning up behind the accidents,” said Mcain. “They’re going so much faster than the 55 speed limit,” Lee said. “If they lower it, it will give them the opportunity to at least slow down.” County leaders say they plan on posting new signs.
