Well over 100 official cars lit up the streets of Bolivar, Friday night. “I think he would’ve enjoyed really enjoyed this. Because he was the first who would’ve volunteered to come in and do this for someone else,” Whiteville Police Chief Steven Stanley said. Friends said he is not just remembered as a police officer. “He’s gonna be well missed. He was one of a kind, you’re not going to find anyone like Eddie,” a lifetime friend, Debra Bowden, said. “Just an all around good guy, he cared for everybody. Young, old, rich, poor., ” Chief Stanley said. So, Friday night the community paid their respects. Cars from all over West Tennessee showed up to honor officer Hamer. “Everyone in law enforcement is a brother or sister, like a big fraternity. Just a big brotherhood and we care about each other, fight with each other.. But at the end of the day take care of each other,” Chief Stanley said. “If he could’ve been standing here looking at it, it’d brought tears to his eyes cause he wouldn’t thought nobody would recognize him,” Bowden said. As the “Sea of Blue” rolled back in, all agree that when the lights go off, the memories of officer Hamer will not be forgotten. “It went down in history tonight. He was a good person and he’s going to be well missed. Wherever he is, he’s probably smiling right now,” Bowden said. The cause of the accident Hamer was involved in Monday has not been determined.
