UNION CITY, Tenn.- A West Tennessee man is wanted for cruelty to animals after police said he abused and neglected his pets to the point where two of them died. According to Union City Police, officers found two dead dogs and seven others neglected that were abandoned on a property off of East Gibbs Street. Officers said the animals were left without food or water. “Well it’s a shame people don’t take care of their dogs, ya know,” neighbor Randy Pigg said. “I have one in the house and it’s like a child to me. If people are going to own dogs, they need to take care of them.” Police said the animals belonged to Kenya Davis, 40. Officers said they believe Davis moved out and left the dogs to fend for themselves. According to the police report, six of the dogs were found inside of the abandoned home, one of the animals was found locked inside of a shed behind the home. Police said their investigation started after concerned neighbors called officers for help. “It’s no good, no good to leave the dogs out there with this cold… with no food and no water,” neighbor Juan Agular said. “It’s just not right.” Police said all of the dogs seized had severe cuts and lacerations to their bodies. Investigators said at least one of the dead dogs found behind the home had one of its legs nearly torn off. Officials said are uncertain exactly how the animals received their injuries. Police said they believe the dogs have been alone for at least a week, maybe longer. “I think that’s horrible. I love dogs,” neighbor Nicholas Lugo said. “I think anybody who has got dogs and is going to let that happen shouldn’t have them.” “Yea and I think they really need to make an example out of him,” Pigg said. The animals seized are now at animal control. Police said Davis has a history of negligence, their records show in April of last year he was charged with violating the leash law, harboring vicious animals and failure to provide proof that his pets had been vaccinated. Police said Davis is now wanted for animal cruelty. If you know where Kenya Davis can be found, call Union City Police at (731) 885-1515.
