Arrest Made in Counterfeit Money Cases

JACKSON, Tenn.-Jackson Police Investigators made an arrest Wednesday on a man suspected of passing counterfeit currency. Investigators with the General Investigation Bureau‘s Organized Crime Unit arrested Allen Vernell Battle, 32, of Jackson Wednesday morning on the Highway 45 Bypass just south of Hollywood Drive. Battle had two arrest warrants issued on him. Both were for using counterfeit United States currency to purchase items. In one incident in early December, 2013 Battle presented counterfeit currency to purchase items at a fast food restaurant in the 600 block of Old Hickory Boulevard. In the other incident a resident of Jackson had some items for sale on Craigslist. Battle met with the seller and bought several items. The seller later found out that the currency Battle used to pay for the items was actually counterfeit. When Battle was arrested, he was on the way to meet who he thought was the seller to make another purchase. Instead, he met Investigators with the General Investigations Bureau who arrested him on the outstanding warrants. He was found to be in possession of over $300 in counterfeit currency when he was arrested.
