OBION CO. Tenn. — Obion County Schools have been closed all week because of dangerous and icy roadways but school officials say they have already used all the allotted snow days for the year. “The weather has not cooperated with us,” explained Interim Director of Schools, Dale Hollowell. “We’ve had little sunshine and freezing temperatures so very little melting has occurred.” So far students have missed ten days for snow and ice, and they only set aside eight. Tim Maynard, Director of Transportaion tells WBBJ they had hoped to resume school Friday, but nearly 60% of back roadways were still a sheet of ice. “We want to transport them safely and there is no way we can do that on ice like this,” Maynard said. The school system now has two days to make up, and said they are weighing their options with district board members. “We’re looking at presidents day and we have a inservice scheduled in March that could be transformed over to an instructional day. We also have a spring break in April, and we could add some days to the end of our school year,” Hollowell said.
