EMA Disaster Training Highlights Special Needs Victims

JACKSON, Tenn.- When bad weather strikes, emergency officials said people dealing with mental illness need special attention. Friday, local experts offered this type of special training. The Jackson-Madison County Emergency Management Agency teamed up with the American Red Cross to host counselors and therapists at the Jackson Madison County Health Department. They focused on how to help those with issues like bio-polar disorder and alzheimer’s, when natural disasters strike. “The faster we can get a response to these people, the easier it is on them, the easier it is on first responders and we can mitigate and eliminate a lot of the problems,” said Marty Clements, director, JMC Emergency Management. Officials said Madison County is the first in the state to do this type of training. To find out more information about the next session contact the Jackson-Madison County EMA at (731 427-1271.
